Optimists of Calvert Halloween party 2017
Barstow, MD – The Optimist Club of Calvert held its annual Halloween Costume Party and Parade Sunday, Oct. 29 at the Calvert County Fairgrounds. Dozens of area kids—most of whom we’re wearing clever disguises—were in attendance. Local club members handed out prizes, trophies, awards and treats; and supervised games during the two-hour event.

The highlight was the parade. Three club members served as judges and the panel had the unenviable task of deciding the winners of each age group. The costumed kids judged first, second and third in their age group received trophies while all other participants received a medal. Every participant was given a take-home goodie bag. Children between the ages of 1 to 13 could participate in the parade.

The Halloween party is one of the club’s many annual activities. The Optimist Club’s mission is to help local kids with service projects, scholarships and support for other youth organizations. “By providing hope and positive vision, Optimists bring out the best in kids,” according to the club’s mission statement.

The names of the winners will be subsequently posted on the local club’s Facebook page
