Delegate Tony O’Donnell was one of many speakers at the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department’s memorial dedication ceremony.

Lexington Park, MD – Bay District Volunteer Fire Department celebrated the dedication of a memorial for deceased members Sunday afternoon, Sept.13 at station 3 in Lexington Park.

Past and present members attended as well as the families of some of the 66 members honored.

VIPs included Congressman Steny Hoyer, Delegate Tony O’Donnell, St. Maryโ€™s County Commissioner Mike Hewitt and Pax River Commanding Officer Capt. Heidi Fleming.

Hoyer noted that โ€œjust a few days ago, we were remembering the first responders who perished on 9/11 and today we are ringing the bell for those Bay District members who passed.โ€ He went on to congratulate Bay District for a beautiful memorial.

Fleming, Oโ€™Donnell and Hewitt thanked the volunteers of Bay District and St. Maryโ€™s County for their selfless service to others and joined Hoyer in congratulating the department for the memorial.

The brief ceremony included the Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemenโ€™s Association Honor Guard, Mike Bowen with his bagpipes and Sean and Pat Davidson singing the National Anthem.
