GREAT MILLS, Md. — A Callaway man was arrested earlier this month after a midnight traffic stop uncovered drug paraphernalia and suspected crack cocaine hidden in his pickup truck, according to charging documents filed in District Court.
Court records show that Johnny Eugene Archer Jr., 51, was pulled over around 2 a.m. on July 3, 2025, near the intersection of Route 246 and Route 5 in St. Mary’s County by a Maryland state trooper. The trooper reported observing Archer run a flashing red signal without stopping and drive past without wearing a seat belt.
When stopped, Archer identified himself to the trooper, who noted in the report that two metal smoking pipes were visible in the truck’s center console. When questioned, Archer allegedly stated that the pipes were used to smoke marijuana and, at times, to “do a line of powder cocaine.”
The trooper requested and received signed consent to search the vehicle. According to the statement of probable cause, the trooper located a glass smoking device, Brillo pads and a Tylenol bottle behind the driver’s seat. Inside the bottle was a substance suspected to be crack cocaine. When asked about the contents, Archer reportedly said, “It looks like drugs.”
Archer was arrested and charged with possession of CDS not cannabis and three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center and processed without incident. His bail was set at $0 and he was released on his own recognizance.
Court records indicate a trial date has been scheduled for Aug. 28, 2025, in St. Mary’s District Court.
