crime scene in Maryland

LA PLATA, Md. — A man in his 60s was taken to a Baltimore hospital Friday morning, October 10, 2025, after accidentally shooting himself in the hand at the Myrtle Grove Shooting Range in La Plata.

The incident occurred around 11 a.m. at the state-managed range located at 5690 Myrtle Grove Road. First responders were instructed to stage at Hawthorne Road and Myrtle Grove Road until law enforcement secured the scene.

Range staff reportedly began controlling the bleeding before emergency medical crews were cleared to enter the property. The man sustained a gunshot wound to his left hand while at Lane 1 of the range.

EMS transported the man with a non-life-threatening injury to Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, a facility known for its hand and upper-extremity trauma care.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police, who oversee operations and safety at the Myrtle Grove Shooting Range, are investigating the circumstances of the accidental discharge.

No other injuries were reported, and range operations were temporarily halted during the emergency response.
