LA PLATA, Md. — A man is facing multiple charges after allegedly throwing objects into traffic and causing a dangerous disturbance along Crain Highway in La Plata, according to court documents.
Jerald Anthony Erby, 48, was arrested April 13, 2026, following reports of a disorderly individual in the area of Charles Street and Crain Highway.
Officers were dispatched after reports that a man was throwing items into active traffic. Deputies located Erby near a shopping center, where he was observed holding a large wooden stake and later throwing objects into the roadway.
Investigators say Erby threw multiple plastic discs into the southbound lanes of Crain Highway while traffic was actively moving through the area. Officers reported that despite commands to stop, Erby continued his behavior, at one point waving a sign and striking it against a nearby business before returning to the roadway.
Authorities noted that the actions created a significant risk to motorists and pedestrians in the area due to the volume of traffic at the time.
Erby was taken into custody and transported to the Charles County Detention Center.
He has been charged with failing to obey a lawful order, disorderly conduct, littering, and reckless endangerment.
Erby is currently being held without bond following a bail review hearing before Judge Sally C. Chester.
A trial is set for May 29, 2026, in Charles County District Court.
