Man charged with driving while impaired and possession

Calvert County Sheriff’s Office DFC Y. Bortchevsky observed a vehicle on October 4th at 11:43 p.m. traveling northbound on Md. Rt. 4 near Thomas Gantt Road in Huntingtown.

The vehicle crossed the shoulder line then drifted into the merge lane just past Huntingtown High School.  Bortchevsky conducted a traffic stop near Scarlett Drive and contacted the driver, identified as Gary Michael Hendrick, 55, of Suitland. 

After administering field sobriety tests, Hendrick was found to be driving while impaired.  Hendrick also was in possession of a suspected schedule IV drug. 

Hendrick was charged with DWI by drugs and/or alcohol, reckless driving, negligent driving, and possession of Zolpidem Tartrate.
