On November 2, the pharmacist at the St. Johns Pharmacy in Hollywood,ย became suspicious that Jeffrey Alan Dement, 44 of LaPlata, may be passing fraudulent prescriptions.ย
Dement submitted a prescription which was filled at the pharmacy on Oct. 31, for Oxycontin.ย On Nov. 2,ย Dement returned to the St. Johnโs Pharmacy and dropped off a second prescription allegedly written by the same doctor for Percocet.ย The pharmacist contacted the doctor listed on the prescription and discovered the doctor had not written either prescription for Dement.ย Dement was a patient of the doctor and had recently been seen by the doctor but no prescription for those medications were issued to Dement.ย
On Nov. 2,ย when Dement returned to the pharmacy to pick up the prescription he was arrested.ย Search incident to Dement’s arrest lead to the discovery of additional prescription medication not contained in a prescription bottle on his person.ย
Dement was charged with two counts of prescription fraud and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.ย Dement also was served with two outstanding arrest warrants from Charles County for theft.
