PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – On February 14, 2025, Recardo Jerome Robert Futrell, 36, of Fort Washington, pled guilty to attempted aggravated animal cruelty.
The charge stems from an incident on August 11, 2024, when a small dog was discovered abandoned inside a commercial-size dumpster at Mutual Elementary School on Ball Road in Port Republic.
An investigation by Calvert County Animal Control and the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Futrell intentionally threw the dog into the dumpster following a domestic dispute.
Futrell faces 3 years incarceration and a $1,000 fine. Sentencing is scheduled for May 14, 2025 at 1:00pm before the Honorable Mark W Carmean.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Christopher Monte.

Put this animal in a cage where he belongs. All 3 yrs seems appropriate.
