Lowell Joseph Braswell Sr.
La Plata, MD – Lowell Joseph Braswell Sr., 53, of Oxon Hill, was sentenced with credit for time served Thursday for first-degree assault after many noted crimes in the past.
At his sentencing Thursday, July 28 before Charles County Circuit Court Judge Amy J. Bragunier, Charles County Assistant State’s Attorney Frank Granados read off a list of previous offenses ranging from CDS distribution to second-degree rape and robbery.
Braswell faced sentencing for first-degree assault for a Dec. 13, 2015 incident in Waldorf when he pointed a gun at three people and threatened to kill them.
Officers from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office arrested Braswell the next day.
“Given these prior offenses, we would ask you to impose a period of incarceration,” Granados told Bragunier.
Braswell’s attorney, Brendan M. Callahan, said his client has served every sentence he has been convicted of.
“The state has just read you some convictions that happened years and years ago,” Callahan argued. “In this case, it was an argument with family members. Mr. Braswell had too much to drink. The facts vary widely.”
Bragunier sentenced the defendant to 10 years, but suspended all but 99 days and gave him credit for 99 days of time served.
She placed him on five years of unsupervised probation, told him he had to conduct a random urinalysis if instructed to do so by his agent and that he was to have no unsupervised contact with the victims.
