CALIFORNIA, Md. — A man was taken into custody early Tuesday after a prolonged law enforcement response to a reported domestic-related disturbance in a residential neighborhood of St. Mary’s County.
According to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called shortly after 1 a.m. on Dec. 23, 2025 to the 45000 block of Hickory Hills Circle for a reported verbal dispute. Investigators said the male subject made threats to harm himself and another individual inside the home.
The victim was not injured and was able to flee the residence before deputies arrived, officials said. As deputies secured the scene, the situation escalated into a barricade, prompting authorities to ask residents to avoid the area. The sheriff’s office emphasized there was no threat to the broader public.
After several hours, deputies obtained and executed a search warrant. The subject was taken into custody without incident and transported to a medical facility for evaluation.
No additional injuries were reported.
The investigation remains ongoing. Further details will be released as they become available.
