Mechanicsville, MD— On May 29, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Cpl.Snyder was en route to investigate a reported assault in the area of Mechanicsville.ย
Snyder was diverted to Fred’s Liquor store to make contact with the victim. Upon arriving on the scene contact was made with the victim who advised, “he was going with his girlfriend to help her get her personal items from the defendant’s residence,” according to charging documents.ย
The defendant was identified as Andrew C. Clarke, 19 of Mechanicsville. When the victim arrived at Clarke’s home, he was not there. However, Clarke and the victimย arrangedย to meet at Chesley Lane.
The victim was walking towardsย Clarke’s truck when Clarke exited his vehicle with a knife in his right hand. The victimย began to run away from Clarke. While running in a nearby field he fell.
The victim put his hands up and said, ‘you caught me.’ Clarke dropped the knife and got on top of him and punched the victim in the head and face at least two times. Both Clarke and the victim got up and walked back to their vehicles.
Once both subjects wereย at their vehicles, the victim said, “fight me one on one, ” according to charging documents. Clarke dropped a knife and pulled out another knife and said, “he was going to stab the victim and then stab himself. Then he placed the knife on his neck,” according to charging documents.ย
Sergeant McCoy arrived on the scene to take Clarke into custody and transportedย him to St. Mary’s Hospital. After Clarke was released from the hospital, he was taken to St. Mary’s County Detention Center, where he was charged with first-and second-degree assault.ย
At this time, Clarke does not have a scheduled court date. Clarke faces a maximum jail sentence of 35 years and/or a maximum fine of $2,500.ย
