LEONARDTOWN, Md. — From Moll Dyer Rock and Point Lookout to the Dr. Samuel Mudd House and Calvert Cliffs, Southern Maryland residents are being invited to photograph familiar places tied to local ghost stories, legends, and history.
SoMD Photography, the Southern Maryland chapter of the Full Frame Foundation, is partnering with Spooky Solomons on an October community gallery and live storytelling project featuring 16 locations across St. Mary’s, Charles and Calvert counties. The project will be presented through SoMD Photography’s “Community Gallery Wall” at the St. Mary’s County Arts Council Gallery & Gift Shop in Leonardtown.
Participants do not need professional photography equipment or experience. Phone photos, digital images, Polaroids, family photographs and older prints are all welcome. Residents may photograph one of the featured locations specifically for the project or submit an image they already have. Rather than searching for the “best” photograph, organizers said the project is designed to show familiar Southern Maryland locations through different perspectives while connecting those images to stories residents may never have heard. Up to 16 photographs will be selected by SoMD Photography and Spooky Solomons for the October gallery display.
SoMD Photography will cover the cost of professionally printing, framing, and displaying the selected images. Additional submissions may also become part of temporary displays during Spooky Solomons’ live storytelling presentations on Oct. 3 and Oct. 10, 2026, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. As stories are shared, photographs submitted by residents will help create a visual backdrop for the locations being discussed. “This project is about more than putting photographs on a wall,” said Casi Chisholm of SoMD Photography. “We want to create an opportunity where people throughout Southern Maryland can contribute something of their own and then come together to experience what everyone helped create.” “These stories are connected to places people throughout Southern Maryland see every day,” said Adam Tremper of Spooky Solomons. “Having photographs contributed by the community gives us a completely different way to experience those places while sharing the stories connected to them.” Participation is free and open to all ages and experience levels. Students and young photographers are especially encouraged to participate.

How To Participate
Residents may submit photographs featuring one or more of the listed locations. New and existing photographs are welcome, including images stored on phones, in family albums, or in personal photo collections.

Submission Deadline: Sept. 24, 2026
Submit Photographs To: gallery@somdphotography.org
Submissions should include the photographer’s name, the location pictured, and the photograph as an attachment. Participants submitting multiple photographs may send them in separate emails if needed. Photographers whose work is displayed will be credited as part of the exhibition.
Gallery And Storytelling Dates
The October “Southern Maryland’s Haunted History” exhibit will open at the St. Mary’s County Arts Council Gallery & Gift Shop in Leonardtown on Sept. 30, 2026. Spooky Solomons will hold live storytelling presentations on:

Both presentations are free and open to the public.
