(Annapolis, MD) โ€“ Maryland State Police investigators are continuing their investigation into an apparent suicide that resulted in the death of a man in Annapolis, MD today.

A positive identification of the individual has not yet been made. State Police investigators are still investigating.

Just after 8:30 a.m. today, Maryland State Police received a 9-1-1 call from a motorist, reporting a man who jumped off of the westbound side of the Severn River Bridge.ย  Maryland State Police from the Annapolis Barrack was immediately dispatched to the location.

Upon their arrival, the man had already jumped over the bridge. Shortly after he jumped into the Severn River, emergency responders from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, Maryland Natural Resources Police and the US Coast Guard responded to assist in the rescue.

The body was located by Anne Arundel County Fire Department. The body is being transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy

The preliminary investigation indicates prior to the man jumping off the Severn River Bridge, the man was operating a silver 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe traveling westbound on US Route 50 from southbound MD Route 2.ย  The man continued traveling westbound and struck the rear of a Jeep Wrangler which sustained minor damage. The man continued westbound striking the center median concrete barrier between the east and westbound lanes on US 50.ย  The man then crossed all three lanes of travel striking the concrete barrier along the slow shoulder where the vehicle came to final rest. Witnesses tell police the sole occupant and operator was a black male who exited the vehicle and jumped off the bridge.
