LA PLATA, Md. — The first baby of 2026 born at University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center arrived early New Year’s Day, giving a Marbury family a memorable start to the year.

Weston Wade Marshall was born at 5:59 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026. He weighed 9 pounds, 2 ounces and measured 21.5 inches long.

He is the first child of Khrystal Wade and Travis Marshall of Marbury. The couple arrived at the hospital around 8:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, knowing their son would arrive soon—but unsure if he’d be among the first babies of the new year.

“We knew it was coming,” Wade said. “We just didn’t know if we’d be the first one to the new year or not.”

Born a few days after his Dec. 28 due date, Weston arrived on his own timetable. “He slowed down a little bit,” Wade said.

Hospital staff marked the occasion with a new-baby gift basket filled with diapers, a small outfit and other essentials.

Wade said family members were present and supportive during labor, which she described as challenging but rewarding as a first-time mother. With loved ones nearby and little sleep so far, the Marshalls are settling into their new routine as first-time parents.
