LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — Skye isn’t your ordinary dog. This two-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix came to live with St. Mary’s County Animal Services last August, after allegations of abuse in her previous home.

Since then, Skye has shown incredible resilience and, according to the shelter’s social media, doesn’t bear any physical or emotional scars from her past trauma. She greets new people with a wiggly body and “tongue-out grin.” She’s happy-go-lucky, high-energy, and excited to live every day to the fullest.

“Meeting Skye, you’d never know she was a victim,” the shelter wrote on Facebook. Most animals come to the shelter as strays or are given up by owners who can no longer care for them. Skye was rescued from abuse, but has spent the last six months in the shelter. She’s safe and loved, but a kennel isn’t the best case scenario for any dog, especially an energetic “velcro dog” like Skye that just wants to love and be loved.

Skye got to spend some time in a temporary foster home recently, and got rave reviews. The foster family said she’s housebroken and eager to please. She loves treats and wants to soak up as much love and affection from her people as possible. “

We know that Skye had a rough start to life and that she deserves to find a home where she’s loved and treated like family,” the shelter wrote online. “And we want that for her ASAP.
