On a recent visit to TheBAYNET.com and Baynet Radio, Candidate for U.S. Senate, Neil Cohen laid out his campaign goals and objectives in two separate interviews. Here is what the candidate had to say about the issues.

โ€œThe first thing I want to tell everyone is that I am running for the U.S. Senate to represent all Marylanders as the only moderate Republican in the race,โ€ said Cohen. โ€œIn the past few years the dreams of too many Americans have been destroyed by petty bickering in Washington. I want better for my family and for yours. I am determined to be the hard working public servant Marylanders deserve โ€ฆโ€

Cohen feels that the current elected officials have forgotten that they were sent to Washington to fix problems. โ€œProblems are identified on the left and on the right, but solutions to those problems always come from the middle,โ€ said Cohen.

The candidate feels that the current Senator, Barbara Mikulski has been in office far too long and has become part of the endemic problems that lawmakers in Washington demonstrate when trying to pass meaningful legislation. โ€œWith the deficit exploding and our public debt running into trillions of dollars, with millions of our fellow citizens unemployed, with the prospect of schools, hospitals and many local public services forced to close or go bankrupt I believe our current officials spend too much time defending their position rather than looking for solutions.โ€

Cohen feels that in order to get Maryland and the country moving again there must be political leadership and cooperation. โ€œWe will not end the partisan bickering if hard-line conservatives continue to argue that the only way forward is to cut out government from our lives, repeal all healthcare legislation and disagree with Democrats on every issue as a matter of principle.โ€

When asked about jobs, Cohen stated that he will look for every way possible to stimulate job formation in our country. โ€œIn the future, I believe that incentive needs to encompass all the conditions that aid job creation, not just providing arbitrary tax breaks for select groups.โ€

He also explained that all government dealings, at every level, need to be more transparent and held accountable for expenditures. โ€œIn business, whether large or small, every investment must be worthwhile and show a return. Businesses that make bad investments fail, why should our taxpayer dollars be treated differently?โ€

Differing from his more conservative colleagues, Cohen feels that there is a need for a fair taxation system that provides everyone with the necessary services needed. โ€œEffective taxes support our military, care for our veterans, invest in our youth and provide the basic treatment for our elderly and sick,โ€ said Cohen. โ€œHowever, our tax system is neither effective nor efficient and I will lead efforts to simplify the tax system and promote transparency so you can see where your taxpayer dollars are spent.โ€

When asked about healthcare, Cohen stated, โ€œAs a medical professional let me be perfectly clear and state that I believe some form of healthcare reform was and still is necessary. However, I do not believe the current bill and the way it was passed in Washington D.C. will resolve our healthcare issues.โ€
