METCOM

CALIFORNIA, Md. – The Metropolitan Commission recently received the Premier Workplace Safety Award from Chesapeake Employers Insurance Company for building customized workplace health and safety programs. The award recognizes efforts to reduce the frequency and severity of workplace accidents and ensure an overall safer work environment.

MetCom was one of only 18 award recipients out of 18,619 active policies, placing the agency in the top 0.1% of honorees. The Commission’s five-year combined loss ratio, a key metric in the insurance industry, has remained well below 25%, which is considered very low.

“Employers have a moral and legal responsibility to ensure workers return home safely at the end of each workday,” said MetCom Executive Director George Erichsen. “Being recognized as one of the top safety performers is a testament to our Risk Manager/Safety Officer’s dedication to the employees of the Commission. Although every individual has a role to play in maintaining a safe environment, the commitment of MetCom’s Risk Manager/Safety Officer to providing proper training and safety equipment to our workforce has significantly reduced the likelihood of workplace accidents.”

Chesapeake Employers Insurance Company is the largest writer of workers’ compensation insurance in Maryland and has specialized in providing this coverage to Maryland businesses since 1914.
