Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) released the following statement on Monday after the House of Representatives’ failed to pass the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008:
“The House Republicans acted recklessly. Regrettably, a rescue plan is needed. It must include rigorous reform. It must make sure that tax payers are protected, families get help to stay in their homes and CEOs who caused this crisis don’t get golden parachutes. Greed on Wall Street and the lax regulatory practices of the Bush administration have gotten us into this mess. Taxpayers are angry – and so am I. People who played by the rules are now being asked to pay the bills for those on Wall Street who didn’t. Congress must take steps to protect our economy, our middle class and our way of life. I stand ready to do my part.”
