Senior U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) recently met with the Charles County Commissioners to discuss a variety of topics including energetics technology, transportation, the proposed federal stimulus package, and the overall economic future of the county.

The meeting also gave the Commissioners an opportunity to personally appeal for her assistance in receiving federal funds for development projects in the county and Southern Maryland. Commissioner Gary V. Hodge (District 4) who expressed interest in President-elect Barack Obama’sย  stimulus package, questioned the Senator about the likelihood of receiving federal money for the upgrading of roads and bridges. Hodge told Mikulski, โ€œI have a list of โ€œshovel-readyโ€ projects in Southern Maryland that could move forward as soon as funding comes through.โ€

Commissioner Reuben B. Collins (District 3) expressed hope for the passage of a comprehensive bill to address the foreclosure crisis.

โ€œPeople need help, and I personally know of many residents who would love to restructure their mortgages,โ€ he added.
