WALDORF, MD –ย After a five year hiatus, Minor League Baseball front office veteran Bill Snitcher has returned to the staff of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.ย Bill will serve as Senior Director of Business Development.ย In his new role, Bill will oversee revenue that is generated by Sponsorship Sales, Tickets and Group Outings at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf.
In announcing the move, Blue Crabs President Patrick Day said, โThe front office staff of our company is in many ways just like the baseball team itself.ย Itโs made up of not only rookies but veterans too.ย Bill brings to our office experience in our industry that stretches back to the 1980โs.โย Similar sentiments were echoed by Blue Crabs General Manager Courtney Knichel who said, โBill knows what works in our business and he delivers a level of customer service that makes his clients view him not as a salesperson but as a trusted advisor.โ
Before working in Sports Marketing, Bill was a sponsor of seven Minor League Baseball teams stretching across the mid-Atlantic region.ย Snitcher said, โIt all started in Hagerstown when I was the Marketing Director of the Middle Atlantic Milk Marketing Association.ย Baltimore Orioles ironman Cal Ripken was our spokesperson for milk as was Philadelphia Phillies third baseman and future Hall of Fame member Mike Schmidt.ย I convinced my boss that we needed to expand our promotions for milk using Minor League Baseball out into the smaller cities.ย So I started with a June Dairy Month promotion with the Hagerstown Suns.ย Back then the Suns were owned by Peter Kirk who today is Chairman of the Blue Crabs ownership group.ย We did on-field contests where the ballplayers milked the cows and we built ice cream sundaes that stretched 100 feet or more.โย Snitcher added, โAt one of these events one day, I said to myself, doing this is kind of fun.ย It advertises a product in a unique way and it makes people smile.ย Not long thereafter, a member of Peter Kirkโs staff called me and said, if you are ever looking to make a career move, we would like you to join our staff.โย Soon thereafter Bill signed on with the Bowie Baysox.ย
After the Baysox, Bill became one of the original members of the Blue Crabs staff.ย Snitcher said, โI was out there talking about the team even before there was a team and even before ground was broken on the stadium.ย I was responsible for selling the billboards and the luxury suites that helped pay our companyโs share of the stadiumโs construction costs.โย Snitcher added, โIt all culminated on the first Opening Night for the Blue Crabs in May of 2008.ย I was so proud of the ballpark and what we had accomplished.ย ย I felt like I was welcoming thousands of dear friends into my own home.โ
In 2010, Bill left the Blue Crabs to pursue his own business which continues to this day.ย He handles Bus Advertising that appears across Southern Maryland.
