LEONARDTOWN, Md. — Comcast’s multi-year broadband expansion continues to take shape in St. Mary’s County, with new connections coming online in Leonardtown and surrounding communities as crews move deeper into rural and suburban areas.

The project, announced earlier this year in partnership with the county, will extend gigabit-capable service to more than 30,000 homes and businesses by 2028. County leaders have called the expansion a critical step in bridging coverage gaps and supporting families, students, and small businesses.

Comcast confirmed to TheBayNet.com that it has recently added more than 500 homes in Wicomico Shores to the buildout, with construction already underway and the first homes expected to have service by the end of the year.

“We’re proud to be expanding America’s largest and fastest converged network to reach more than 30,000 homes and businesses across St. Mary’s County – bringing residents a new choice for reliable, high-speed Internet,” said Kristie Fox, Vice President of Communications for Comcast’s Beltway Region. “We’re thrilled to share that we are deepening our investment in the County and recently added more than 500 homes in Wicomico Shores to this project. Construction is underway and the first homes in Wicomico Shores will have access to Xfinity products and services by the end of the year.”

Service has already been lit up in Mechanicsville, Leonardtown, and Hollywood. “As we light up Xfinity services in new communities such as Mechanicsville, Leonardtown and Hollywood, what’s resonating most with residents is the convenience of having a full suite of products and services in one seamless solution,” Fox said. “From fast, reliable WiFi to Xfinity Mobile, which can save customers up to $1,000 in their first year, residents are embracing the connected experience that comes with multiple Xfinity products.”

Comcast has also introduced new internet packages as part of the rollout. “We recently introduced a major update to our Internet offers designed to bring greater simplicity, transparency and value to customers,” Fox said. “The new lineup features four easy-to-understand tiers starting at just $40 per month – with no contracts required. Customers also have the flexibility to lock in pricing for one or five years, and every plan includes our advanced Xfinity WiFi Gateway. Plus, Xfinity Internet customers can enjoy one unlimited line of Xfinity Mobile at no cost for an entire year.”

Residents and businesses can check Xfinity.com/MyTown for address-level updates on construction timing and upcoming service availability.
