Deputy State Fire Marshals arrested a Lexington Park woman yesterday in connection with a mobile home fire that occurred on July 10. Jeinny Navarro, 19 years of age, was taken into custody yesterday morning at her husband’s parent’s home in New Carrollton, Prince George’s County.
The 3:37 p.m. fire in the 20000 block of Treetop Road, destroyed a 12’ by 55’ mobile home. Approximately 30 firefighters from Lexington Park and Bay District responded to the mid-afternoon fire and were able to bring the fire under control in twenty-minutes. The fire caused approximately $25,000 in damage to the home and contents.
Investigators determined Navarro, her husband and their 18-month old child had been living in the home. After an extensive investigation conducted by Deputy State Fire Marshals and investigators with the St. Mary’s County Bureau of Criminal Investigations determined there were on going domestic problems between the two. On the day of the fire after an altercation with her husband she barricaded herself inside the home with her child. Investigators concluded she poured an ignitable liquid throughout the interior rear of the home and then intentionally started the fire. Her husband and neighbors were able to rescue the two.
Navarro has been charged with first-degree arson, malicious burning in the first-degree and reckless endangerment. She currently is being held at the St. Mary’s County Detention Center in lieu of posting a $500,000 bond.
