The Concerned Black Men of Calvert County (CBMCC) is proud to announce that one of its founders was recently elected to the group’s national leadership.
The national board elected new officers to its board of directors at its Annual Delegates Meeting in Dallas, March 8-10. Hosted by CBM Dallas at the Sheraton North Dallas, the meeting included chapter updates and presentations as well as an incoming address from the new chairman, Nathaniel Pope, of Owings.
“We are immensely proud and most excited for Nate’s accomplishment,” said CBMCC President George Carter. “His leadership and progressive thought over the years have made CBM Calvert one of the premier chapters in the country. Now, that unshrinking dedication stands to benefit more young people and communities across this nation as he works to further grow CBM’s success and mission.”
Pope, immediate past Vice Chairman of CBM National, is an active member of the Calvert community. He has served repeated terms on the county’s Economic Development Commission, coached local youth league football in Dunkirk and volunteered on various other civic, political and church committees. Pope is President of NPJ Advertising & Public Relations, Inc., based in Washington, D.C. Pope along with five other local men founded CBMCC nearly 17 years ago.
“I am honored to be elected as national chairman and look forward to the challenges that lay ahead,” Pope said in remarks to the CBM delegates. “One of my goals is to develop broader relationships with private corporations and individuals who are supportive of our mission and are willing to lend their image and financial support. We are a premiere non-profit organization and our list of friends should reflect that.”
CBMCC, a chapter of the national Concerned Black Men, boasts a membership composed of men from all walks of life. These men are dedicated to the betterment of their community through mentoring and development of programs that bolster the self-esteem and education of youth. Youth breakfasts, cultural field trips, SAT test preparation sessions and an AAU basketball team are all part of local programming.
