With less than one week to go, St. Mary’s County is buzzing with anticipation of the 28th Annual National Night Out! The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is proud to be a part of this annual event and encourage those who are not participating this year to come out to participating neighborhoods and see what the buzz is all about!

 

 

 

On Tuesday, August 2, 2011, neighborhoods throughout St. Mary’s County are joining forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the “28th Annual National Night Out” crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and will involve over 11,000 communities from all 50 states, US territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world.

 

National Night Out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police –community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know our neighborhoods are organized and “fighting back!”

 

On August 2nd from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. the following neighborhoods throughout St. Mary’s County are locking their doors, turning on their outside lights and spending the evening outside with their neighbors and police. Many of our neighborhoods, businesses, and community organizations are hosting a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, ice cream and cake socials, flashlight walks, youth activities, anti-crime and anti-drug rallies. Check out the list below to see if your community is one of them. Then at 6:00 p.m. on August 2nd, lock your doors, turn on the outside lights, and spend time celebrating with your community and neighbors!
