NEWBURG, Md. — Firefighters battled heavy smoke Tuesday afternoon after flames broke out in a former airplane hangar converted into a shop at Aqualand Campground.
The fire was reported at 2:31 p.m. on Sept. 2, 2025, at 9700 Orland Park Road in Newburg. Initial 911 calls described heavy smoke visible from the structure, with crews confirming a working fire on arrival.
Water was established from a nearby source as hose lines were advanced inside. Firefighters encountered heavy flames on one side of the building and reported propane tanks nearby, prompting extra precautions. Crews secured the power to the building and extinguished the fire within 40 minutes.
No injuries were reported. The State Fire Marshal and SMECO were notified.
