WALDORF, Md. — After months of anticipation, Southern Maryland shoppers finally got their first look inside Sprouts Farmers Market, which opened its doors in Waldorf Friday morning with excited crowds gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a grand opening celebration that runs through Sunday.
The store, located at 3000 Festival Way at Crain Highway and Berry Road, is Sprouts’ first location in Southern Maryland and features natural and organic products, a wide produce selection, and specialty items focused on health and wellness.
By 7 a.m., lines had formed around the entrance as customers waited to be among the first inside. Early shoppers were greeted with giveaways, including reusable shopping bags filled with samples and long-stem roses. Staff members were stationed throughout the store and outdoor area, engaging with guests and offering guidance.
Inside the Store: Wide Aisles and Fresh Produce

The store features wide, uncluttered aisles and an airy, open layout that invites shoppers to explore. Toward the back, an expansive produce section bursts with color — stocked with everything from everyday staples to harder-to-find items like whole coconuts and oversized aloe vera leaves. The selection blends familiar favorites with unexpected options; this just might become the go-to spot when you’re searching for that one unusual ingredient no one else seems to carry.
Sprouts offers a variety of “Ready to Cook” and “Ready to Eat” options, neatly organized in grab-and-go coolers. Shoppers will find marinated meats for a quick dinner, fresh wraps, salads, soups, and convenient snack boxes, with price points that range from affordable to premium.

The seafood counter features a variety of fresh options, including salmon, shrimp, catfish, cod, and more — all ready to take home for dinner. Just around the corner, the sushi station was a crowd favorite, with a steady line of customers picking out their favorites. The hand-rolled sushi is made fresh on site, offering an easy and fun option for shoppers on the go.
Self-Serve, Bulk & Specialty Zones

Shoppers can explore a large bulk foods section, with barrels and dispensers filled with nuts, grains, dried fruits, snacks, and sweets. Other notable offerings include a fresh floral display, body care discovery kiosk, and interactive health and vitamin stations.
Throughout the weekend, visitors can explore tasting stations, scavenger hunts, and outdoor vendor booths as part of the grand opening festivities. One featured activity, “The Great Scale Showdown,” invites guests to guess the weight of select produce for a chance to win a $25 prize — adding a fun twist to the shopping experience.
Grand Opening Events Continue Through Sunday

The grand opening celebration runs through Sunday, Aug. 3, with in-store tastings, giveaways, and an outdoor pop-up experience scheduled daily.
Inside, visitors can stop by the Tasty Tastin’ Station for samples or test their luck at The Great Scale Showdown by guessing the weight of produce for a chance to win prizes. Shoppers are also encouraged to explore helpful features like the Vitamins and Body Care Discovery Center, where an interactive screen allows guests to learn more about products that align with their health and wellness goals.
Whether you’re seeking fresh ingredients, prepped meals, or specialty snacks, Sprouts offers something for every kind of shopper.
