LA PLATA, Md. — David Morris, a 2025 graduate of North Point High School, earned national recognition at the 2025 International Thespian Festival for his original short film “Camp Mockabee #showinaweek.” Inspired by the Port Tobacco Players’ summer youth theatre program, the film received a Superior rating at the Thespys Short Film Festival on June 26.

Morris’s project stood out among submissions from across the country and was screened during a special presentation on Thursday, June 26, at Whittenberger Hall in Bloomington, Indiana. His work was praised for capturing the creativity, collaboration, and energy of youth theatre.
The short documentary captures the collaborative, fast-paced nature of Camp Mockabee, a weeklong program where high school students stage a one-act musical from start to finish. The program is hosted annually by the Port Tobacco Players at their community theatre in La Plata.

The Thespys — formally the International Thespian Excellence Awards — celebrate achievement in student theatre nationwide, with categories spanning performance, technical design, writing, and filmmaking. The festival is presented by the Educational Theatre Association in partnership with Disney Live Entertainment.
