Dear Parents/Guardians:
This afternoon, we received information that a student might have a gun in his possession. We took immediate action and our School Resource Officer located the student, who left the building and discarded the gun in a parking lot. Additional officers responded to the school with search dogs to help locate the weapon, but the gun was found prior to their arrival. The gun was identified as an Airsoft gun, a replica that fires plastic pellets. North Point was on shelter-in-place status while police conducted an investigation.
Police removed the student from school. Students found in possession of a weapon, real or look-alike, face possible criminal charges and school disciplinary action.
Please remind your children that all guns, including air guns, BB guns and other similar weapons, are not allowed in school and are treated as possession of a weapon. Students often feel they will not get in trouble for possession of these types of weapons because they do not consider them to be โreal.โ The police will be called in all cases.
North Point has a system in place to receive information and to follow up on it. That system worked well this afternoon, and we were able to quickly resolve this incident. Please remind your children that if they have any information about any illegal, threatening or dangerous activity, they should immediately contact a staff member at the school. It is essential that we work together to maintain safe schools and communities.
Thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the school office.
ย
Sincerely,
Michael Simms
Principal
