DUNKIRK, Md. — We have received reports that an off-duty Charles County deputy suffered from a self-inflicted gunshot wound this afternoon in Calvert County.

At approximately 2:35 p.m., crews were dispatched to the AutoZone located at 2990 Plaza Drive for an originally reported gunshot wound. Reports indicate that the accidental discharge was caused while the deputy was getting out of his vehicle, and he was struck by his bullet in the left leg.

He would eventually be transported to a nearby trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries.
