Prince Frederick, MD – October 31, 2019 – The Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter one-year anniversary is around the corner and with all the happy “tails” that have come from the shelter the anniversary gives “paws” for celebration. Since opening Nov. 1, 2018, shelter staff and volunteers have helped more than 500 animals find loving homes, more than 200 animals have been reunited with owners and staff have relocated over 250 animals to rescues.
The primary goal of the Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter is to provide compassionate, humane care and treatment to the shelter population and responsibly find good homes for animals in the community. To meet this goal, the shelter has made every effort to make the adoption process smooth for citizens including waiving adoption fees for cats when the shelter was over “cat-pacity” and launching www.CalvertCountyAnimalShelter.com to provide adoption information and tips.
Citizens are invited to tune in to the Calvert County Board of County Commissioners weekly public meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 10 a.m. to view a proclamation commemorating the shelter’s anniversary. Visit the shelter Nov. 5 through Nov. 9 to view a memory wall with photos of animals adopted over the last year and check out www.Facebook.com/CalvertCountyAnimalShelter to submit photos of shelter animals settled into new, happy homes.
“We strive each and every day to ensure that animals in our county have as good a quality of life as our citizens,” said Public Safety Director Jackie Vaughan. “Public Safety is proud to not only protect and serve citizens, but to do the same for our pets. I am especially proud of staff who have worked hard this past year to get the animal shelter up and running and appreciate all they do for our community.”
“All of us here at the Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter are so proud of what has been achieved the past year,” said Calvert County Deputy Director of Animal Services Crystal Dowd. “We look forward to the future and what else we can accomplish as we continue to provide the best care for the stray and unwanted animals in Calvert County.”
