Waldorf, MD – A fire Sunday morning, Dec. 4 in Charles County caused damage to a two-story apartment complex and injuries to an elderly female occupant, state officials reported. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the blaze occurred on Ell Lane in Waldorf and was reported around 10:30 a.m.

“A resident of the apartment building noticed smoke,” a deputy fire marshal stated, further indicating the smoke was seen coming from the elderly woman’s apartment. “The fire department responded and made entry into the apartment. Upon doing a search of the apartment involved, they found the victim in her bedroom. The victim was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma where she is in serious condition with smoke inhalation. The origin and cause revealed this accidental fire was caused by combustibles being placed too closely to a heater’s heating element.”
