The Maryland State Police College Park Barrack and the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) conducted Operation “Sit Tight” during the month of March 2016 in the northern part of Prince George’s County.  The purpose of Operation “Sit Tight” was to remind and educate motorist of Maryland’s seat belt laws.  Most importantly, we aimed this operation to save lives, reducing fatal and serious injury motor vehicle collisions on our roadways. With your help, we have successfully reduced the total vehicle collisions for this quarter for our area of responsibility by 5 % as compared to 2015.

As the weather becomes better, we will have an increase of motorists on our roadway/highways.   Through Operation “Sit Tight”, eight (8) motorists a day were identified as not wearing their seat belt properly, not wearing their seat belt at all or having children in the vehicle not properly restrained.   Overall, more than 260 motor vehicles were stopped for seat belt violations during this operation.

This operation also resulted in the arrest of 58 individuals, who were identified as fugitives for various criminal/traffic violations or committing criminal acts, 34 motorists driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and 19 individuals arrested or issued civil citations for possessing controlled dangerous substances in their vehicles.

Our goal is your safety as you travel on our roadways/highways.  Should you have any question please contact Lt. Prendi V. Garcia or F/Sgt John Pietanza at 301-345-3101.
