LEXINGTON PARK, Md. โ As of Friday morning at roughly 10 a.m., the Maryland Department of Health(MDH) is confirming a total of 16,616 cases of the novel coronavirus(COVID-19) across the state of Maryland, while there are going to be more results that are presumably still waiting to be confirmed.
This new total means there are 879 newly confirmed cases in the past 24 hours.

Of the confirmed cases, over 3,618 people have ever been hospitalized, and 141 of those were recorded in the past day.
1,108 previously infected people have been released from their isolation according to MDH, 68 of which have been recorded in the past day.
43 people in the state have died from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the stateโs death toll unfortunately up to 723.

Negative test results also grew, with at least 3,737 negative confirmations in the past day, bring that total to 68,100.
At this time, there are at least 730 officially confirmed cases in the Southern Maryland region. Charles County saw their previously confirmed total of 442 cases rise to 459. In Calvert County, the health department has confirmed new official cases on a rolling basis, bringing their total up to 139.
St. Maryโs County also counts cases on a rolling basis, and records from the county show a total of 132 cases as of 11 a.m. Additionally, St. Mary’s is now reporting it’s fifth death in the county. We do not have any details about this individual at this time, but will provide an update when we receive new information.

A majority of the positive cases across the state are still found in Montgomery County and Prince George’s County. PG County still has the most cases of any county in the state, with an overnight increase of at least 262 cases bringing the total to 4,403.
Since yesterday, Montgomery County saw an increase of at least 167 newly recorded cases, bringing their total to at least 3,227.
Anne Arundel County has also confirmed 79 new cases in the last 24 hours, bringing their official total to 1,373.
On April 23, the total number of confirmed cases by the Maryland Department of Health was at least 15,737. As of April 24, that recorded number is at least 16,643, showing over a 5.7% increase across the state in the past 24 hours.
