Charlotte Hall, MD – A fire Sunday afternoon, June 4 in St. Mary’s County caused an estimated $200,000 damage to property, including a shed, several vehicles and a house, state investigators reported. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the blaze on Charlotte Hall Road was reported shortly after 3 p.m. after it was discovered by the property owner.

“The fire began on the interior of the wood-framed shed as a result of overloaded wiring,” a deputy fire marshal reported. “The fire spread quickly to numerous adjacent vehicles and a residence before it could be extinguished.”

Smoke from the blaze could be seen as far away as Waldorf. Sixty firefighters from the three Southern Maryland counties were dispatched to the scene and brought the flames under control in an hour. No injuries were reported.

According to the fire marshal’s office, the property owners are Ignatius and Priscilla Thomas.  They were displaced as a result of the fire and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
