Overnight Fire Causes 5.7 Million In Damage To Annapolis Public Works Building

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works’ AACo Traffic Maintenance building was hit by a major fire on March 18, 2024. The 911 call, placed at approximately 12:13 a.m., came from an MDTA representative who spotted flames rising from the roof of the building at 409 Broadneck Road.

Firefighters arriving at the scene found the 10,500 square foot commercial structure heavily engulfed in flames, with fire spreading through the roof. The building was unoccupied and closed at the time. No injuries have been reported.

Around 60 firefighters from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, Annapolis Fire Department, and Naval Support Activity (NSA) Annapolis Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. The blaze was brought under control in approximately 1.5 hours. The estimated damage to the building is around 5.7 million dollars.

  1. Uhh that would make this building worth $500+ /sq ft – someone is looking for insurance $$$

    1. I work for a public works department, it’s not the building, it’s the contents inside, if they store equipment, tools and so forth in that building then yes 5.7 million is probably a low estimate
