UPDATE: Cause Of Nanjemoy House Fire Determined Accidental, $150K In Damages Reported
NANJEMOY, Md. — A fast-moving fire destroyed a double-wide trailer in Nanjemoy early Tuesday morning, displacing six residents but resulting in no reported injuries.
Firefighters were dispatched just after midnight on April 15, 2025, to the 2100 block of Sandy Point Road, where they arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames. Initial reports indicated one of the occupants had briefly re-entered the structure, but all four adults and two children were safely accounted for.
Due to fire throughout the structure and a compromised floor, crews operated in a defensive mode. More than 20 units responded to the scene from across the region. The blaze was brought under control around 1:10 a.m., with crews remaining on-site to extinguish hot spots.
The fire may have originated near a refrigerator on the back porch, according to information relayed by the homeowner. The cause remains under investigation.
The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.
