INDIAN HEAD, Md. — Papaleo’s Ice Cream in Indian Head opened April 13 and is serving up delicious ice cream, shakes and sundaes.
Papaleo’s is owned by the same team that brought the Oasis Fresh Foods Market to Indian Head. According to their website, the market was created to address a long-standing gap in access to fresh produce, healthy pantry staples and everyday groceries for Indian Head and surrounding Southern Maryland communities.
Papaleo’s is the newest addition right next door to Oasis at 4155 Indian Head Highway. This new ice cream shop keeps its flavors simple but packs on the offerings through unique milkshakes and sundaes.
And the ice cream stands up to the test. The three classic soft-serve flavors — chocolate, vanilla and twist — are fresh and delicious and set an unbeatable base for all the menu items.
Here’s everything you need to know from our first visit to Papaleo’s Ice Cream.
Location
Papaloeo’s is located right on Indian Head Highway next to Oasis Fresh Foods Market. There isn’t much parking on the main road, but there is parking behind the market. The ice cream shop also has pretty limited seating, with just two tables and a handful of benches, so be ready to stand and eat or take your ice cream to go.

Ordering
Ordering is pretty straightforward here. Papaleo’s has a menu at the ordering window listing all of their shake and sundae options, and a QR code so you can view the menu online and browse before you order. We didn’t have to wait in line, but one formed after we ordered, so you might have to wait a little depending on when you get there.
After The BayNet ordered at the window, our order came out fast.

Ice Cream
Our group tried a caramel shake, a strawberry cheesecake sundae and a regular, classic chocolate ice cream. They were all delicious, though the sundae could have absolutely been shareable for two people.
All of the offerings were interesting and felt like specially designed recipes to make the most of the ice cream and the ingredients. And we can sing its praises, but the best way to get a true sense of the ice cream is to go try some for yourself.

Papaleo’s is open 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, so mark your calendars and get ready for some weekend treats.
