LATHAM, N.Y. – Quentin Pastore (Towson, Md./Towson) was selected as the 2023 United East Conference Men’s Cross Country Senior Scholar-Athlete as announced by the conference office Wednesday morning (Feb. 7).
For this award, a graduating senior student-athlete is selected based on a combination of their academic success, athletic success, and service. An institution may nominate one student-athlete from each sport and the winner will be selected by a voting group. The grade point average (GPA) for nominations will encompass the student-athlete’s cumulative GPA.
“I am proud of how Quentin has represented our institution and program both academically and athletically. He exemplifies what it means to be a student-athlete and what it means to give back to his community,” third-year Head Coach Reava Potter said.
Criteria for the award are as follows:
- A student-athlete must have a senior or graduate student class standing.
- A student-athlete must be at least in his or her second year of competition at their current institution in any sport.
- Must be a leading contributor to a team’s success throughout the duration of his or her career.
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- Evidence of active leadership and community service involvement throughout collegiate career.
Pastore finished his Seahawk career as a two-time Second Team All-United East selection. He finished 10th at this year’s United East Men’s Cross Country Championships in 30:27.2, a three-spot improvement from his 13th-place finish (30:14.49) at the 2022 league championships.
He ran his best 8K time at the 2023 NCAA Division III Men’s Cross Country Mid-Atlantic Region Championships, clocking a 28:07.7.
In the classroom, the 6-0 senior holds a 3.907 GPA as a physics and mathematics double major. He is a two-time United East Scholar-Athlete (2021, 2022) and landed on the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference All-Academic Team in 2020. Inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the national college athlete honor society, in March 2023, Pastore gained Dean’s List every semester at St. Mary’s College.
He gives back to the community by volunteering his time at the Elks Lodge.
St. Mary’s College has now had five Seahawks named United East Senior Scholar-Athletes since the award’s inception for the 2022-23 academic year: Liam deLone-Bellsey ’23 (2022, men’s soccer), Hannah Gorel ’23 (2023, women’s tennis), Lily Davison ’23 (2023, women’s lacrosse), Stacie Lally ’24 (2023, women’s cross country), and Pastore.
