Paul “Sonny” Grant Cooley, Jr., 88, of Brandywine, MD, peacefully passed away on November 25, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Paul was born on November 3, 1936, in Brandywine, MD, to Paul and Ruth Cooley. 

Paul worked as a computer programmer analyst for various departments within the Federal Government. He was known for his dedication and innovative approach while playing a crucial role in numerous projects that greatly benefited the departments.  Part-time employment included working at the Safeway in Waldorf and then working in residential real-estate.

After his 35-year career with the Federal Government, Paul retired in 1992, and then enjoyed chauffeuring limousines part-time.

On July 19, 1958, Paul married Doris Goldsmith. The two were blessed with four children, Deborah Conner (Dave) of Woodbridge, VA, Brenda Clark (Edward) of Hughesville, MD, Paul Cooley, III (Kathleen) of Brandywine, MD, and Dallas Cooley, Sr. (Debora) of Huntingtown, MD.

Paul was a car enthusiast, and especially had a passion for classic cars and would often spend his weekends attending car shows, and also enjoyed sharing his knowledge with fellow enthusiasts. 

Paul was predeceased by his parents, sisters Louisa Ward, Marian Beck, and Elizabeth “Betty” Tuffli. He is survived by his beloved wife, children, sisters Alice Greniger, and Ruth Inman (William). Paul and Doris were blessed with 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends for the visitation on December 4, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with prayers at 6:45 pm officiated by Pastor Christopher Otten at Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. A funeral service will be held the following day December 5th at 11:00 am also officiated by Pastor Otten at Trinity Episcopal Church, 9560 Trinity Church Road, Newport, MD 20646. Interment will follow immediately after the service at Oldfields Episcopal Chapel, 15837 Prince Frederick Road, Hughesville, MD 20637.
