PGCPS Adjusts Calendar To Make Up For Inclement Weather Closures

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) has announced plans to make up instructional time lost to inclement weather closures earlier this school year. Four closures so far have prompted adjustments to the 2024-25 academic calendar, with additional changes outlined in case of further weather disruptions.

The first make-up day will take place on February 14, originally scheduled as a professional development day for teachers. This day was predesignated in the calendar as a potential make-up day and will now be a regular instructional day for students.

To compensate for the remaining closures, the school year will be extended by three days in June, with June 16, 17, and 18 now designated as make-up days. These dates were built into the calendar to address weather-related disruptions.

If additional closures occur, PGCPS plans to use March 17 as an instructional day. Originally slated as a non-instructional day, this contingency will only be enacted if a fifth make-up day is required.

Should inclement weather exceed five closures, PGCPS may schedule additional instructional days beyond June 18. Families will be notified of any further adjustments as necessary.

PGCPS encourages families to stay informed about school closures and updates to the calendar by visiting the school system’s website.
