Leonardtown, MD — A St Maryโs County7 Public Schools (SMCPSA) teacher has won a national award. Debora Settle, a physical education teacher at Town Creek Elementary School, has garnered the National Healthy School Hero Award from Action for Healthy Kids. She was only one of 13 to win the award this year.
The award is presented for Settleโs work in fighting childhood obesity and improving childrenโs health and readiness to learn.
Supervisor of Instruction for Physical Education, Health and Athletics Dr. Andrew Roper introduced Settle to the St. Maryโs County Board of Education at their regular Oct. 28 meeting. School Superintendent Scott Smith presented a certificate of appreciation to Settle.
Settle said the entire Town Creek staff played a part in her winning the award. โI thank you for helping me help kids,โ she said.
