Two Home Football Games and Winter Weather May Present Traffic Challenges on Sunday
The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) warns motorists that weekend travel may be hazardous as a complicated weather system makes its way toward the State.ย The system is projected to arrive just as fans flock to home football games in Baltimore City and Largo.ย Drivers are encouraged to carefully monitor the forecast and stay abreast of road conditions by visiting md511.org. โ know before you go!
โThousands of football fans will head to two of the largest regions in the state on Sunday, and we want everyone to both arrive at the games and get home safelyโ said SHA Administrator Melinda B. Peters.ย โIf you travel, leave for the games with plenty of extra time, or consider using use mass transit if at all possible.โ
SHA is closely tracking the storm and will assign equipment and staff as needed.
โIf the rain stops on Saturday and the pavement dries, SHA crews may pre-treat highways to help prevent snow and ice from forming and adhering to the road surface at the onset of the storm,โ added Peters.ย โCrews are prepared to adjust operations as, or if the forecast changes.โ
If it changes to snow, crews will plow and salt as needed, and motorists are cautioned to modify driving behavior for conditions.ย Travel planning is essential for safety during winter weather, not only for drivers but for pedestrians, too. SHA advises drivers to look out for pedestrians, especially around the football arenas, and keep these tips in mind:
