Calvert County law enforcement used a โreverse 911โ call this afternoon to contact residents near Solomonโs Landing in an effort to locate a missing elderly woman.
Somewhat similar to the Amber Alert system in place to help finding missing children, the Calvert County 911 dispatch center has the ability to put out a mass call to all telephone numbers in an area to alert them to an emergency, Maryland State Police Sgt. Ewing of the Prince Frederick barrack told The Bay Net.
Earlier this afternoon, police were notified that an 80-year-old female with dementia was missing and possibly wandered off.
Sgt. Ewing said the โreverse 911โ call was initiated, while Solomonโs Island Volunteer Firefighters searched with womanโs neighborhood with local police and K9 units, and a Maryland State Police helicopter searched from above.
The woman was found within an hour, Sgt. Ewing reported, unharmed and sitting in a boathouse near her home.
