LOTTERY WINNER

BALTIMORE — Powerball was all the rage for the past week as the jackpot reached an annuity value of $1.787 billion for the Sept. 6 drawing, culminating with two winning tickets sold in Missouri and Texas.

Though the jackpot was not hit in Maryland, Powerball players in the state won more than $13.4 million in prizes in the 42 drawings since the previous jackpot was hit on May 31, including 37 prizes ranging from $50,000 to $1 million. And with roughly 25 cents of every dollar worth of Lottery sales directed to state programs and services, sales of Powerball tickets during the jackpot roll delivered an estimated $14.5 million in state funding.

Last week alone, a $1 million second-tier winning Powerball ticket was sold in Pikesville and 12 other Powerball players won $50,000 or more in Maryland.

Meanwhile other Maryland Lottery games continued to deliver substantial prizes, including a FAST PLAY ticket worth $140,569 that was sold on Sept. 7 in Cumberland.

Across Maryland, and across all games (including Powerball), the Lottery paid more than $32.6 million in prizes during the week of Sept. 1-7, including 37 tickets worth $10,000 or more that were sold or redeemed in that seven-day span.

Winners are encouraged to sign the backs of tickets and keep winning tickets in a safe location. Tickets for draw games expire 182 days after the drawing date. FAST PLAY tickets expire 182 days after purchase. The last dates to claim for scratch-off tickets are posted on the scratch-offs page at mdlottery.com.

Winners of prizes larger than $25,000 must redeem tickets at the Maryland Lottery Customer Resource Center in Baltimore, which is open by appointment only. Prizes up to $25,000 can be claimed at the cashier window of any of the six casinos in Maryland. Prizes up to $5,000 can be claimed at any of more than 400 Expanded Cashing Authority Program (XCAP) locations. All Maryland Lottery retailers are authorized to redeem tickets worth up to and including $600. More information is available on the How to Claim page of the Lottery website.
