Washington, DC — On the heels of a mysterious lung illness linked to vaping that’s already sickened over 400 people and been blamed for six deaths, President Trump moved to removed flavored eCigarettes from the market.
According to stats from the White House, about 8 million adults in the U.S. use eCigarettes but so do 5 million children.
โAn entire generation of children risk becoming addicted to nicotine because of the attractiveness, appeal-ability, and availability of these vaping products,โ Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said.
President Trump has authorized the Food and Drug Administration to finalize rules that ban the sale of all flavored e-cigarettes.
The ban will cover all non-tobacco flavored e-cigarettes, which includes bubblegum, fruit, alcohol, mint, and menthol flavored products.
The White House says the action comes as a result of new data that hasn’t been released to the public yet. It shows a surge in adolescent smoking.
It’s hoped that the ban will ensure that e-cigarettes return to their original functionโhelping adults gradually overcome nicotine addiction from tobacco products
