UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — Prince George’s County residents will have an opportunity to celebrate freedom, culture and community this June as the M-NCPPC Department of Parks and Recreation hosts its annual Juneteenth Festival at Watkins Regional Park.
According to a press release from the Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County, the free festival will take place Saturday, June 13, 2026, from noon to 5 p.m. at Watkins Regional Park, located at 301 Watkins Park Drive in Upper Marlboro.
The family-friendly event commemorates Juneteenth, which marks June 19, 1865 — the day enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
Organizers say the festival will blend entertainment, education and community engagement through a variety of activities designed to celebrate African American history, culture and achievements.
Scheduled performers include Rare Essence, Soul in Motion, Proverbs Reggae Band and Got My Own Sound Band. The event will also feature historical exhibits, interactive art activities, children’s programming, food vendors and local artisans.
Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets and spend the afternoon enjoying live music, cultural experiences and community fellowship.
The Juneteenth Festival has become one of several annual events hosted by the department that highlight Black history and culture throughout Prince George’s County, drawing residents together for both celebration and reflection.
Additional information about the 2026 Juneteenth Festival is available through the M-NCPPC Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County.
