Prince George’s County Woman Charged With Multiple Counts Of Insurance Fraud

BALTIMORE – Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced that the Grand Jury for Prince George’s County has handed down two indictments charging Rhonda Keisha Powell, also known as Rhonda Keisha Jackson, 38, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland with two counts of felony insurance fraud, one count of theft of property with a value of at least $25,000, and one count of attempted theft of property valued at $100,000 or more.

It is alleged that Powell submitted two fraudulent insurance claims under her renter’s policy with United States Automobile Association (USAA): one in December 2020 and another in November 2022.

In both claims, she falsely stated that a broken pipe in the primary suite bathroom of her Upper Marlboro home caused flooding, damaging her furniture, electronic devices, clothing, purses, shoes, and jewelry.

In the 2020 claim, USAA paid Powell $58,373. In the 2022 claim, Powell alleged property damages of $124,034. However, USAA denied that claim when it learned that Powell had never reported any broken water pipes or water damage to her landlord, that invoices and receipts that Powell submitted in support of both of her claims were fake or altered, and that photos of alleged damage to the property were not actually taken in Powell’s home.

Powell is scheduled for an initial appearance in the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County on July 26, 2024.

A criminal indictment is merely an accusation of wrongdoing, and a defendant is presumed innocent until the State proves the defendant guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

  1. is that the same USAA that doesn’t have an e-mail address on its website? Let me check the website, yeah,it doesn’t look like they have an e-mail address on there. I wonder why not?

    1. USAA uses phonecalls instead of email for initial contacts. Why do they need to post an email address? Once I have started an action, I usually am provided with an email to use for further reporting.

  2. is that the same USAA that subjects you to a credit score to give you an auto insurance rate, but doesn’t tell you a website that will give you directions to improve your credit score? Do this + in x months, your score will go up by x amount. It has to be something we can do. If we’re told to wear a size 7 shoe + we’re size 9, its not going to work.

    1. USAA is not a credit reporting agency. They use credit reporting agencies for their decisions. Those credit report agencies are the ones who should be advising you how to improve your score against their algorithm.
