If you thought your elected officials, law enforcement officers and other community pillars had all the answers, you were wrong. The fourth annual Prince Frederick Library Pub Quiz, held Friday evening, Nov. 15 at the library gave 16 teams of between four to six participants a chance to vie for a $300 prize. Questions posed by a tuxedo-garbed quizmaster, JR Mathers, ranged from Calvert County history, entertainment, literature and several phobias.
Teams hoping to pocket the cash prize had names like The Anabrainiacs, Tequila Mockingbird, Kaptain Krunch and the Cereal Killers, Platoโs Stepchildren and Bob Loblawโs Law Blog. The team called The Bazinga Gang included all five Calvert County Commissioners.
Participants snacked on popcorn, potato chips and candy while clinging desperately to the hope the many rounds of beer, wine and soda would fuel greater knowledge as the three rounds of questioning proceeded.
Cellphones and other electronic information devices had to be sealed in plastic bags while the questioning was taking place. Mathers, who had considerable power as the quizmaster, occasionally walked around the room to make sure no one was cheating.
In the end, a team called Les Trivials, whose members donned graduation caps, won the coveted Pub Quiz Championship.
Participants paid entry fees, spectators had to pay a small amount to view the action and everyoneโproper identification requiredโpaid for the drinks.
The event was sponsored by The Friends of Calvert Library and proceeds will help fund the libraryโs many needs.
Some of the questions asked are included in the slideshow. How many can you answer correctly?
