Public Outreach Forum Scheduled for April 10

The Charles County Board of Commissioners would like to inform citizens that the School Adequate Public Facilities Program and Funding Review Committee will hold a public outreach forum on Wednesday, April 10 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Cafeteria at Thomas Stone High School (3785 Leonardtown Road, Waldorf). Sign-in will begin at 6 p.m. outside of the school cafeteria.ย  The meeting is open to the general public.ย

The School Adequate Public Facilities Program and Funding Review Committee is seeking input from concerned citizens regarding the best methods to match planned growth to the existing and planned school capacity.ย  The committee is interested also in hearing from citizens on methods of school funding and timing of school construction.ย  Any experience or ideas related to the funding or the provision of adequate physical space in our schools is welcome.

There will be a brief presentation of the committee’s charge and the related topics that the committee will be reviewing; however, the primary purpose of the meeting is to receive citizen input. While offering a public forum to parents and other concerned citizens is important, the following guidelines will be followed for the public outreach forum:

  • Any person wishing to speak during the public forum segment must sign the sign-in sheet upon entering the room.ย

  • Individuals are free to speak about any concerns or ideas they may have concerning the adequacy of physical space in our schools.

  • Comments should be concise and to the point and limited to three minutes. The actual time limit will be at the discretion of the meeting facilitator based on the time available.

  • Making a presentation using slide projectors or overhead projectors is not appropriate for this public forum. Individuals with topics that require more time or who desire to make a more formal presentation than is allowed under these guidelines may request to make a presentation to the committee at a later date.

  • Engaging in active debate with committee or audience members will not be encouraged or allowed.

  • Remarks must be respectful and courteous, free of name-calling and personal attacks. Inappropriate language will not be tolerated. Comments presented in a dignified manner have more credibility.
