The two construction projects are currently in the planning phase. The Anne Arundel replacement will include modern archaeological curation facilities for Historic St. Maryโs City and space for the collegeโs academic programs in anthropology, museum studies, and language/cultures.ย HSMCโs new interpretive center will replace the visitorโs center currently in the blue barns off Rosecroft Road. Construction on projects is to begin in 2012 or 2013.
ย
A CDA follow-up public meeting will be held in the auditorium at HSMC on Thursday, Sept. 24 from 7-9:30 p.m.
ย
These projects stem from 1997 legislation that formally affiliated the college and the historic city to foster joint educational and interpretive programming.ย Co-locating academic programs related to the legacy of the historic site, archaeological research and curation, and the cityโs primary interpretation center in one location will enhance educational programs and promote close interaction between the faculty and staff of the two institutions.ย More information can be found at the following web sites: http://www.smcm.edu/facilities/capitalprojects/marylandheritageinterpretivecenter.html#marylandheritageinterpretivecenter
